I’ve always been keen on experiencing new and diverse cultures and travelling to different countries.  It feels good to broaden my horizons.  And that’s exactly what I’ve done since joining UBM’s Istanbul office as a Business Development Executive.

From day one my managers and colleagues have embraced me and helped me to get up to speed with the job quickly.  I’ve discovered a passionate, engaged group of people who are delivering successful events within a company culture which is positive, flexible and professional.  

I joined the Pharma portfolio – working on the CPhI Middle East & Africa show in Abu Dhabi and FI (Food Ingredients) in Europe.  Within just six months, I’d travelled to Germany on business three times generating new business opportunities for our shows, connecting exhibitors with visitors so they could develop successful partnerships and playing a key role developing our pharmaceutical business in the region.

UBM also supports local communities linked to our events through the IVolunteer programme.  This gives employees the opportunity to touch disadvantaged people’s lives, help develop an awareness of the many issues they face and work towards creating a more sustainable future for those people.  

I am proud to be a part of UBM as it works to improve conditions for people all around the world.

I’m also enjoying the opportunity to explore the impressive range of business sectors – the global UBM family works across.  This experience is priceless!

Senior Marketing Manager, UBM Malaysia

I joined UBM in 2012, when UBM acquired the Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) and with 10 years B2B event marketing experience I am the Senior Marketing Manager for UBM Malaysia. During my career journey, I found my passion to be in the events industry and discovered the value of marketing in contributing to the success and growth of the event business.

I am primarily responsible for event marketing including PR, advertising, branding, content marketing, special events, digital marketing -  from traditional to online,  so attracting exhibitors and visitors to the show. I also work for the corporate communications side of UBM Malaysia, taking care of corporate PR and media relations.

As part of the UBM marketing community, I really enjoy sharing my career story with my peers. We cultivate UBM’s culture and values with our customers to grow and achieve success together. UBM is unique in the value it attaches to the contribution of marketers by providing opportunities such as education, recognition and career development. I always look forward to the annual UBM Asia Marketing Meeting and UBM Asia Marketing Awards. I feel proud and satisfied when all contributions are being truly recognised internally by management and colleagues as well as externally by the customers and business partners.

Head of Sales, Coterie and Project Womens

My career trajectory is unique — I was originally a customer.

I moved over to the events industry 2 years ago after having been a familiar face on the Coterie and Intermezzo Collections show floors for more than 25 years as both an exhibitor with my own multi-line showroom, and as a buyer.  The events the UBM Fashion team put on were sensational and inspired me to join the other side.  

I was part of UBM’s acquisition of BJI in April 2016 and joined the UBM team four months later assuming the role of Show Director of Intermezzo Collections and Accessories Circuit.  In October of 2017, I was made Head of Sales for our Tier 1 women’s fashion events: Coterie and Project Women’s New York and Las Vegas.  I consider myself very lucky to be working with an incredible group of people, managing a staff of 12, responsible for overseeing the sales teams and all sales related issues.  In addition, I head up the brand screenings for both shows.   

I am probably best known for successfully launching UBM Fashion’s first consumer facing neighbourhood, [email protected] (now [email protected]), which garnered a global EPICs Award nomination (UBM’s inaugural global awards) for the Breakthrough Event Leader category.  

As a 35-year fashion veteran and strong supporter of small business, I moved over to the events industry because I finally feel I’m in a position to actually help people, brands and retailers, to navigate the changing landscape we are currently experiencing in the fashion industry.

I am constantly inspired by the past, something many people will tell you to forget.  The past was the inspiration for [email protected]  Vintage represents another time, when clothing and accessories weren’t mass produced, but created by hand with a love for the actual product itself.  It speaks to the journey that brought us here and influences how we look at things in the future.  I firmly believe that in order to know where you are going, you need to let the past inspire you along the way.  That’s simply how I’ve always lived my life.      

I commute to NYC every day from my home in New Haven Connecticut where I live with my partner of 18 years and our 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Eli and Milo.

 

Andy Li
Corporate Marketing & Communications Manager

I joined UBM in 2016, as a Corporate Marketing & Communications Manager for China. I am dedicated to delivering our UBM values (The Commitments) and our culture both internally and externally. I especially like the UBM commitment “We do the right thing”. From a personal perspective I believe that the right motivation will lead to the right decisions and the right actions. UBMers are proud of the UBM culture.

I was fortunate to be selected as one of three delegates from UBM to attend the One Young World 2017 global forum for young leaders, in Bogota, Colombia. This was a very special experience for me. It inspired me to become a change maker for a better world, and I hope that I can spread this positive energy and passion to everyone.

As a Marketing & Communications Manager I really enjoy sharing UBM’s culture and values with our customers to improve the UBM brand image. I try to reach out to people inside and outside the company to encourage them to “do the right thing” not only in their works but also their lives. With this kind of opportunity I feel happy and satisfied working at UBM.

UBM provides a perfect platform for young people to engage with their individual career development. Also, UBM is a place full of passion and opportunities, as long as you are willing to try, nothing is impossible.

Being an ardent backpacker I have always been restless and felt the need to work in a dynamic company. Three years with UBM, and it still feels like the journey has just begun.

This company is dynamic and bustling with opportunities. Good processes and people provide me with the right environment and the fervour to give my best. What works for me is the way the management empowers us and helps us to succeed. We all have our ups and downs, but it’s important that we get back up again. That’s possible when we have a strong support system at work, and I am happy I’ve found this here at UBM in India.

There is this undercurrent of energy that sets this company apart, and I am glad to be a part of it. My learnings at UBM would be to embrace change and don’t be afraid to test new waters. UBM has got your back!

Executive Assistant

After joining UBM as an Executive Assistant in the technology department, I began to realize that my potential opportunities were limitless. I am a strong believer that anyone can create the career they want, but must be willing to do the work it takes to get there – what better place than UBM?

In search of a true “Events First” understanding, I connected with several show directors for the chance to attend some of our events held at the nearby Javits Center. Doing so allowed me to attend and work at each of the events that have taken place in New York since I started at UBM.

My role in the technology team allows me to see many areas across the UBM business. I am able to learn all sides of the company, and I believe it allows me to become well rounded as an employee and individual.

The culture at UBM is amazing. Everyone is friendly and always willing to provide a helping hand. I am happy with my decision to join the UBM family.
