This film kept me totally engrossed from start to finish. Anthony Hopkins is amazing, as always - although his accent seemed to change through the course of the film, which was weird - but maybe I misheard?
I didn't take to the Ryan Gosling character, he seemed very shallow and didn't make me care about him at all - but that was probably totally intentional and it is my problem that I like a bit more depth to my characters!
The story surprised me all the way and I can't say any more without giving things away but definitely recommend the film as being worth watching if you like legal/crime dramas.

I'm not sure what you call this - murder mystery, courtroom drama. I just call it terrific.

It feels like intelligent films that treat their audience as intelligent, are ever rarer. So it's a real joy to find this film. Gripping, suspenseful, never feeling contrived. Ryan Gosling's character is entertaining and interesting. And Hopkins is just... great all round.

I enjoyed this film a lot.

I'm not going to say too much as it might spoil the film, Like an old episode of Colombo, you start knowing most of the facts and you watch the process as the story unfolds. Maybe a little clichéd in places but please don't let that put you off.
Anthony Hopkins is a joy to watch, naturally, and Ryan Gosling's not too bad either. the Rest of the characters are a little two dimensional but at the end of the day it's not about them.
Will justice be served? maybe, maybe not!

I can't believe I did not see this years ago. A fantastic crime drama. Anthony Hopkins is brilliant as always. Gosling did a fantastic job with his character.

Very good. When the film 'Jagged Edge'came out, the BBC critic Barry Humphries said, they don't make them like this any more. Well, they did, and they still do. More than a courtroom drama. Edge of the seat stuff. Btw the accent Hopkins is doing, ref below, is a mellow, educated Irish; may not have been what was in the (US) script, but probably the right choice. He and Goslng are excellent. Class.

This is a very good film. We have a genius who played the system to get away with murder. We also have a talented but haughty prosecutor who gets a choice - a career worth millions in a private law firm, or trying to win a hopeless murder case. Sometimes one needs to lose to win.

Excellent acting, gripping story, nice twists.

I watched it twice several years apart and enjoyed the second time even more than the first.

Superb film, spoilt by the over-loud music throughout, making it very difficult to hear the dialouge in many places. Why can I watch a film made in the 40s, 50s, 60s etc, and hear every word, but many films (and some TV dramas), made over the last 10 years or so, are ruined by rubbish sound editing?
It's a nonsense that should not happen in the 21st century.
I would have rated this film 5 stars, if it were not for the terrible sound.
